Roam Mobility is the perfect solution for Canadians travelling to the U.S.

U.S. roaming fees suck, I think everyone can agree on that.
In order to avoid outrageous prices, most Canadians turn off their phones when they travel over the border to the U.S. Canadians actually account for nearly one third of the 60 million inbound trips to the United States each year.
“The smart Canadian traveller goes down to the U.S. and buys a U.S sim card, but the problem is that there is a lot of inconvenience involved in this… What we did is basically ask, how do we solve this problem? And what we ended up with is a product that’s very simple and very transparent,” said Emir Aboulhosn Roam Mobilities’ CEO
Roam Mobility offers roaming plans for approximately $3 a day with data plans that are $0.2 per MB. The company describes itself as a ‘roaming replacement service.” Customers purchase a sim card from the company’s website (or another retailer), activate the service, and then enjoy special roaming rates. It seems like it’s perfect for short trips to the U.S.
Roam Mobility’s sim card is also available for purchase at 200 different retailers and at most major airports.
The downside to this roaming option is the fact that in order for the service to work, since it’s actually using a new sim card, you’ll be assigned a new phone number associated with your Roam Mobility sim card. This means that before you travel to the U.S. on vacation or for business, you’ll need to notify your friends and family that your number will be different.
“The one thing that’s unique about Canadians is that we’re pretty much data (broadband) junkies. Per capita we have the highest Facebook, Twitter and smartphone users. Unfortunately, we also have some of the highest cell phone bills in the world. The whole idea of crossing a border that really doesn’t feel that foreign to us, and having to turn off your phone, is kind of a weird experience. We’re trying to get rid of that,” said Aboulhosn.
The company also offers a $50 dual sim card phone that allows users to use both their regular phone number and their Roam Mobility number at the same time. Also, they offer a mobile hot spot device for $130 that’s designed to give users a consistent internet connection when they’re travelling in the U.S. It also removes the need to mess around with Hotel’s and public WiFi hotspots’ passwords.
If you’re traveling to the U.S. Roam Mobility seems like the best wireless option around right now, especially if you’re interested in potentially saving a few hundred dollars.
