Eight pharma suppliers band together to improve packaging testing, compatability

February 18, 2016 BioPharma Dive

Dive Brief:

  • Led by the Canada-based Vanrx Pharmasystems, a group of eight pharmaceutical packaging suppliers have banded together to form the Matrix Alliance. Collectively, the alliance is focused on further developing the compatibility and testing of pharmaceutical packaging technologies.
  • Responding to the increasing level of complexity in manufacturing injectable drugs, the alliance aims to better support CMOs.
  • The companies will work to test new containers for injectables and increase compatibility between different members’ products.

Dive Insight:

The Matrix Alliance will include Vanrx, ARaymond Life, Daikyo Seiko, Datwyler Group, Ompi, Schott AG, Schott Kaisha, and SiO2 Medical Products. Together, they hope to educate the pharma industry on new developments in injectable packaging.

Why now? Next-generation drugs will demand a higher level of complexity in how they are manufactured and packaged. The alliance hopes to meet that demand.

“The need for collaboration in this area arises from the increasing sophistication of manufacturing processes and packaging needed for next-generation parenteral pharmaceuticals,” the companies said in a joint statement.
